god damn 22 years?

Im only 20 years old :o

yea but humps has been training judo for 22 years....also thats cool what martial arts do you train in?

I do a little of everything, I would say my main focus would be kick boxing but Iv got a nasty guard cause Im lanky and really flexable so I can work rubber guard and all that good shit... Tho the gym I train at is mostly kempo karate and krav maga so those are the classes that I go to but we mostly just train mma stuff cause my trainer is fighting soon and hes a black belt in tie kwon do (sorry i cant spell worth shit :() so hes really good standing and he weighs about 160 so hes just a little heavier than me I typically weigh about 148 or so but I might be at 150 cause Iv had this ridiculous hunger lately... But anyways... we work about everything so im getting very well rounded I just need to work on my wrestling thats probably what we work the least but Id rater just pull guard cause I feel more comfortable with some one in my guard...

thats awesome dude and Krav Maga is a fucking beastly martial arts my friend trained in it and he is pretty strong....i really wish i can do martial arts full time because i do just a little bit of boxing and judo, but not that much though and i really dont learn a lot and my friends try and teach me some BJJ whenever they have time but i am on the wrestling team so i guess thats makes up for something

Wrestling is a really good base to have cause Im sure you know a lot of subs already from watching mma, thats how I learned all the subs so when I went in for lessons I was already really good from what I had learned from just watching. I was also really lucky that I found a good gym, honestly I just picked the gym that was closest to my house haha and I go in one day and tell the guy I wanna start fighting and he started telling me about his first amateur fight that he had so I signed up there and they saw that I was really committed to mma and I was good so he started asking me to stay after class with him during his private training sessions and that made me so much better. Iv found that its all about who you train with and what they can do, I also train with this guy thats like 220lbs and is really good at jits and man that made me get so much better cause if you got some one thats that big and really good at jits you gotta really be good to not get subbed 100 times a day... But the only way to get good is to train, Im way way better than I was 4 or 5 months ago when I hadnt taken any classes. But like I said wrestling is very important for controlling where the fight goes and will really help with your top control.

Training?? OMG what is that !

Postby Lorhaiden » 13. Nov 2009, 01:19

J/K. Trained 3yrd TKD, 1year Judo, 1year wing Chun.... that is "offical" training.. other than that have had many friends in most Martail Art forms. Don't know if you would call it training but alot of us would meet up and "trade" techniqes with each other and get drunk and spar, this went on for like 5 years.... no wonder i spar better drunk ! Wouldn't nessassarly recomend it without proper gear and training. Have thought about doing MMA but not trained to prize fight per se. Haven't done much for many years now but still do Ti Chi style forms on my own, although not so slow in the execution of the form like Ti Chi.

UFCfan I would say judo is a great martial art to learn, it gives you good clinch work, ground control and basic submission skills.

although i could be a bit biased because I did it for 12 years and have started again

I sort of train, but school generally takes over, especially during exam weeks.

I used to train in grappling, but right now I do primarily Muay Thai with a little Judo on the side.

As for wrestling as a base:
I don't see wrestling as any different than Judo or catch wrestling (supposedly they're different). But the one biggest advantage wrestling gives you is the ability to cut weight. Everyone I know who fights at 135 usually has to cut 20 some odd pounds. And they actually do it. Personally, if I were to fight, I'd fight at 125 or move up to 135. But seeing how undersized I am, I'd prefer 125.

I do free weight (dumb bells and weighted ankle and wrist bands) and resistance training (hand grips, push ups, etc.). I also cap it off with some flexibility training.

On my own I haven't really got a teacher because where I live every one only teaches krate and Muay Thai, I don't really what to learn either because I feel like MMA is over populated with Muay Thai and krate just doesn't doesn't cut it for MMA when you put takedowns and BJJ in to the mix. I really want to learn Kung fu. But I been training boxing with my dad and wrestling and BJJ with a friend.
