The middle finger!!!

Postby El-magico » 29. Dec 2009, 23:56

6 months ago i jammed my finger in wrestling practice. It hurt like hell but continued with the rest of the class with my finger bented up. Finally i got home and iced it and taped it up. Have been doing this for about 6 months now and finger still hurts i cant seem to make a complete closed fist. My questions is if this is normal? Dosent hurt as much anymore and some of the swelling has gone down. Also what treatments do you guys recommend if any please let me know?

If you jammed it so bad that you're feeling it 6 months down the road, you need to go to a doctor and get it looked at. That's not normal. At all. A jammed finger shouldn't hurt more than a week or two after, tops, and even that is unusual. 6 months is ridiculous. Get that shit checked up man, that's not good.

Perhaps your right everyone that sees my finger tells me that its sprain an that it will go away. I figure it dosent want to heal becouse i still train and hurt it every time i roll or sparr.

like dragon mentioned before: don't train with that thing. if doing so, the only thing that is for sure is that you even make it worse.
i dislocated my thumb two months ago (it almost broke) and the doctor said that i have to wait till march before i can hit the weights again. i'm fuckin pissed, but what can you do. sometimes the healing process is way shorter if it's broken, instead of a bad stretch of a sinew.

It was probably broken or a crack and with 6months in the bagage it has healed up so to speak so they will have to break it again and put it into place...the only thing i can think of that have happened to you.

Almost happened to me once when i broke my pinkyfinger, i had a old doctor that didnt see the huge crack on my finger and was about to send me home when my mom told him to look at it, if i would have been sent home it would have "healed" and become cricked

i agree, think it sounds like a minor break close to a joint. I've had this a few times and cant make a completely clinched fist with about 3/4 finger and a thumb. I actually did mine mountain biking. what has happened I think is that the tendons have become damaged or are no longer aligned correctly thus you canbt make a clenched with the joint. no biggie.

The main isssue is that it still hurts. you need to see a doctor. YOu fingers will likely heal in about 4 weeks and will be strong enough but will be tender for a few months, but should hurt after 6. Could be some joint damage that needs surgery.

I think sometimes people take a little too serious the "walk it off thing". Pain is not normal. You shouldn't be trying to ignore it. It's your body telling you that something is wrong.

At the very least you shouldn't be sparring with that and give it time to heal. The prudent thing would be to go see a doctor. The smart thing would be doing both.

if its been six months and its still fucked up than there is probably not much a doctor can do to get you back to 100 percent because your finger has probably already tried to mend itself and did so in the wrong direction. you may have permanent damage for this

I broke my finger playing rugby and when I asked a doctor he told me "what dya want me 2 do about it" I know its annoying but this stuff takes time.

I ended up just taping up my finger and then tape it to my other finger which helped a bit.

physical therapy. takes time, it hurts, but he can probably get it back to "full power". but a doctor will be needed anyway.

I might be broken and your have what is called a non-union means your fracture is not healing due to movement. Most likely you will have to get that finger in the right place and have immobilized with a cast from 4 to 6 weeks. Don't waste any time broken bone can get infected or resorbed with movement even if it is micromovement... Good luck.

yea thats a long time, get it checked out, its most likely not broken but something is surely wrong

MMA to me is about winning when you are not the best technical striker or highest level black belt. It is about winning when you are the better fighter.
