Nothing wrong with just waiting until his hands go limp, other refs do it all the time. AGAIN!... to reiterate, for those slow on the uptake here... I am not saying he would have won... I just didn't like the stop. Dean sucks, and I've seen way too many early stops from him. Just let it end like it is supposed to. He WAS limp, his arms couldn't even lift high enough to defend himself, he just got pounded out and didn't intelligently defend himself at all. The UFC has rules, if you're not defending yourself it's over, doesn't matter if you're known for pulling off the comeback submission or whatever, if you're not blocking or swinging back the Ref is going to stop it because those are the rules and they are in place for fighter's safety. Nog could have died from a few more punches, he wasn't defending and was getting his face beaten in and the back of his head was no doubt bouncing off of the mat, he could have gotten seriously injured if the ref hadn't called it.

If you want mindless and brutal violence, go watch some old Pride tapes or early UFC tapes where the rules weren't as strict or protective of the fighters, when fighters got heel kicks to the face on the ground. In the meantime, I'll enjoy watching MMA, not gladiators to the death like you apparently want to see.

ROFL he could have died from a few more punches.... Quit being a pussy, we are watching mixed martial arts. This isn't a tickling contest. Yeah, I love the old pride videos and I have plenty of them. Maybe it's you who should go back to them and watch a bit... and then tell me which of those fighters died in the ring. Please, you cant back up any of the shit you just said, you obviously dont know what you are talking about.

Agree completely. Could have have gone on.. But hey.. Mir got the best of the fight.

Did you even see Nog when he had to be picked up? There is no way he could have carried on.

Everyone is just butt hurt that they were wrong.

I'll be the first to say I think Mir is great and can be the best HW in the world when he applies himself. I knew he had the ability to beat minotauro but didn't think he would and you're right minotauro couldn't have went on

I can back every word of my post.

If you beat someones head against a hard surface like a floor for instance, they will eventually die if the attacker is not pulled off. If they don't die then they'll probably have brain damage, hence THE RULES that say if fighter is not intelligently defending himself (Example: Nog getting his face pounded in without fighting back or blocking) the fight is stopped.

I never claimed any fighters had died in the ring, but if fighters fought like they did in Pride and early UFC still then there's a possibility it could happen. I don't want to see brutality and neither does a REAL mixed martial artist/mma fan. I want to see a legitimate combat sport, not a fight to the death, or a brutal beat down on someone who's already lost. They are martial artists, not street thugs.

It was a good call, Nog was done, your claims are ridiculous. If the ref had let it keep going Nog could have been seriously injured. That's all there is to it. If we had it your way Rampage could have beaten on Wanderlei for another two rounds while he was unconscious.

Get real and learn the rules and accept them.

Who said anything about the Wandy KO? Dont try to straw-man argument your way out of this. You talked about "gladiators to the death" and referenced Pride. Where no fighter has ever even been even close to being fatally injured. That is fucking idiotic man.

As for seriously injured? Seriously, again, quit being a fucking pussy. This is mixed martial arts, and any time a fighter (yes, fighter, they fight, that is what they do in there) steps into the ring, he takes the risk of being "seriously injured" so your argument makes no sense.

You can build up your straw man and burn it all you want, but nobody here said anything about having people fight to the death except you. If you seriously think that 3 more punches would have killed Noguiera, you're a moron.

Three more punches would have been unnecessary because the FIGHT WAS OVER. You're saying it should have kept on when it should not have, I was bringing up Wandy and Rampage because if you're stupid enough to think Nog should have gotten hit a few more times for good measure, in a SPORT WITH RULES FOR SAFETY, then I figured you'd be stupid enough to feel that Wanderlei wasn't out either and needed a few more just in case as well.

I said all I said because you seem like a bloodthirtsty prick who watches fights for the violence and not the competitiveness and skill of fighters under a certain set of rules.

And no, to answer your question that you wouldn't have had to ask if you had reading comprehension skills above that of a five year old, I do not think Nogueira would have died from a few more hits, but as I said before trauma to the head like that repeatedly could be a serious injury and it is UNNECESSARY BECAUSE UNDER UFC RULES THE FIGHT WAS OVER. You think I don't understand people get hurt fighting? You're calling me a pussy for wanting to see the rules enforced and the honor of the sport upheld? Please, you're the type of toolbag fan that keeps the "human cockfighting" image well and alive.

Getting your face punched in, recovering, then winning the match isn't a real strategy in MMA no matter how many times Minotauro pulled it of in Pride. I'm a huge Wandy fan from the Pride years and I'll be first to admit that they've tightened the screws in the Pro MMA circuits... Some see it as a good thing because it legitimizes it as a sport whereas others want MMA to stay the raw no-holds barred street fighting event it was first conceived to be. If you don't like the fact that there's refs paid to do a job in the UFC, you're better off watching a vale tudo event.

Minotauro had no answer for Mir's boxing and it wasn't like Mir was throwing complicated combinations - it was the same overhand left followed by a lead uppercut. All Minotauro had to do was keep good side to side head movement, instead he moved his head back and forth in a straight line and continued to get caught.

Your words man.

I think you have done smoked yourself retarded.

By the way, I am not a fan of felon fights, vale tudo fights, or any type of no rules streetfights. And the point here was not that I believed Nog had a good chance of coming back and winning, Faber, he got dominated. I'm in a bit of a rush at the moment though, and already tired of reiterating old points though, so all I will say is that again, my opinion is that this stoppage was just a tad early. Not the worst early stop in history by any means, but not the way I like to see a fight end for someone who is known for taking huge amounts of punishment and recovering quickly to win the fight. That is it.

It was a hypothetical type of statement, it meant that he was done and any further hits would have just injured him more than necessary. If you had your way he would be way worse off than he was and nothing would have changed. Mir dominated him, I don't know how in the hell it happened as I was cheering for Nog myself, but that's what happened and I've accepted it. Maybe you will eventually too.

Why does everyone try to make excuses for the fighters they want to win when they lose? Its not like the lost to mir defines minotauro's entire career... its just a loss late into his career, hes still had some great fights and wins and is still one of the top heavy weights of all time.

Postby PaulieKnoxville » 28. Dec 2008, 20:48

Are you guys even slightly serious? Are you honestly debating with each other about if Nog was done? Well, from all the fights I've seen, and I've seen plenty, I'm going to go ahead and make this assumption: The only reason why Nog's arms were moving, was because of the momentum from Mir's rabid punches. Nog had been knocked down three times in the fight, and his face was HUGE. There was no defense, and during the other knock downs, his guards were sloppy, and useless.

I wanted Nog to win, but Mir was just fighting on a completely different level. Mir is going to be Heavy Weight Champion, I bet. I mean, Lesnar is good, but, I don't know, it'll be a good fight, I cannot wait.

SIGH....

I'm done here... some of you need to read entire posts before responding... the point is not that Nog was not done, or that he didn't lose. He got fucking dominated. Anyone could see that. Mir looked great, Nog looked like a zombie. Not at all what we were talking about.

see- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_comprehension

Well...I guess that's pretty pointless though, if you couldn't understand a 2 paragraph post, no way you're getting through this wiki article. Never mind.

I give up.
