I hate the fact that one of my all time favs has to lose this. On the flipside, I won't be disappointed by the winner.
With that said: Machida.

Rua's highlight reel is impressive from Pride - too bad those days are long gone - however Machida has a unique fighting style that the aside from Silva no one has figured out how to overcome. Thing with Machida is that he's defensive - hangs back but instigates with extremely accuruate attacks to engage his opponent and when they attack he counters....basically same style as Anderson... Machida will win this one. He'll probably hold the belt for a long time...

I agree with you about Machida being practically invensible at the moment, but its been discovered how to squash the spider, take him to mother earth and he will be punished, he lost his first fight because of geting pounded on his back, Ryo ended it on the ground (with a rare and amazing take down), heck Okami beat him on the ground by making him disqualify himself. Henderson tried to and was on his way to winning till he messed up of course.

Lyoto is elusive and a dangerous striker when finding his distance with patience. Shogun has a steel chin and will go in their intent on suffocating Lyoto with vicious and relentless combinations.
Shogun by TKO/KO in the first round.
or
Machida by Submission/Decision

What's goin on here with the stats, are the 40% of the poeple favoring shogun are people watching his fights from 4 or 5 years ago. Well hate to be a buzz kill if your just getting out of the time machine, but machida is the mma machine at the moment. Sure Brock is by far bigger stronger, and possibly as fast but who cares but that if were comparing overall skill. I think this guy could break Anderson S. winning streak, not just because he's half Japanese but he is an amazing fighter. Shogun either by UD or TKO the guy is gonna keep his belt because he's a great fighter and becuase Mr. White needs a LHW to market as the champ.
