Boxing is by no means dying, the same types who watched it in the 70s/80s where the welterweights and middleweights had it going on still follow it passionately now. However its not the same as the Mike Tyson era but thats just because nobody takes the heavyweight division seriously anymore. They want entertaining fights - which there are still plenty of around - but they also want big fights.
How hard is it to make a big name fight that promises to be entertaining anymore? Casual fans or even hardcore fans - only want to ATTEND fights they know will be entertaining and have fighters they know about. Also its been said heavyweights sell the tickets, and in for a large part this is true.
How many entertaining, named fighter, heavyweight fights have occured in the last 10 years?
Theres why the casual fanbase is waning.
