Wrist Problems.

Postby darrylwasyoung » 14. Dec 2009, 04:40

I have fractured my wrist before, and I am really paranoid about hurting it again. Both my wrists cave sometimes when I hit hard enough. Is there something I am doing wrong? I guess the obvious answer is that I probably shouldn't be hitting anything all, but a friend and I are supposed to be working on striking really hard after Christmas. Any ideas?

wrap your hands, practice striking with boxing gloves. Maybe hit pads or speed bag instead of the heavy bag

Well, you have to wrap your hands first. You have some instructional videos in here, if you're interested.

You should wear gloves, that is no.2. And the striking itself is also important. Now, I dunno how you strike the bag, so I can't tell you much here. But you have to pivot when you punch.

I dunno the name of this exercise in English, so I will post a picture.

Image

Do it with your palms down(like in the pic) until you can reach 50 times the floor with your nose. When you get that conditioning you will start to change hands position. Do series of slow 15 movements with a start and stops of 1 minute stretching over each 30 movements achieved.

1) Fingers looking each others: -< >-
2) Reverse, fingers looking down: ^^
3) Fingers looking each others, palm looking at you.
4) Closed palm(like punching) knuckles 2,3 and 4 in the floor.
5) Fingers looking each others, palm looking at you.
6) Closed palm(like punching) knuckles 1 and 2 in the floor.

Do it before your workout and remember to use cold water to cooling your hands at the end of that.

Ps.: As always, do not be afraid of make any correction about my text, let my errors teach me some English :P

I have never fractured my wrist but I have sprained it more times than I can care to remember. Strengthen your wrists and forearms with exercises. Knuckle pushups are excellent. Get a bucket of sand or dry rice or beans and open and close your hands inside the bucket, make a fist inside the bucket and rotate your wrist clockwise then couter clockwise for 100 reps. As you start to get used to the exercise do more repetitions. These exersizes are not designed to give you popeye sized forearms but I guarantee you they will work all the small stabilizing muscles as well as the major muscle groups in your forearm and wrist. Good luck to you. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line. I am no expert/therapist by any means, I'm just a guy who has sustained alot of training injuries and these are the things that have helped prevent these injuries.
