my background is in boxing, so I dont use any kick at all, since this causes me to lose a lot of power when I punch, and I personally thinks it hurts like hell to get checked, hehe.

i like to keep it simple, and to maintain the distance between me and my opponent, since I'm tall and lanky, so I just use:

1-2
1-1-2
1-2-left hook

the 2 (straight right) is sometimes turned into a looping hook/overhand right, but thats about it. the right hook is a short punch, since you are leading with your left hand/foot, and reaching in with a right hook makes you open for counters and makes you lose your balance.

the most important aspect of punching and combinations is to find angles, so what kind of punches you throw doesnt matter, its all about setting up the angles. sidestepping, countering, diagonal sidestepping, paralell sidestepping, thats what you need to think about in my opinion. and as always (in boxing), its about the minimum amount of movement (short sidesteps, short steps forward), move just enough to slip your punch in

And yet you nailed it. :D

Like in boxing, it's not important just to throw punches. With 14oz gloves and a good technique, one can do little just going at it with any combination. Timing is everything. Timing, setting up punches and kicks and finding an opening.

A person with good footwork, good movement and a solid guard can't be knocked down by someone who just throws good combinations. You have to set it up and then catch him off balance or trying to block or slip something he thinks you will do, but you don't (and connect with something else, of course).

Im with you here...spinning backfists have the potential to be devasting ONCE AND ONLY ONCE!!!! as soon as uve thrown it once the other guy knows exactly whats comin, the only way you can land this punch 85% of the time is against a bag!!!!

Watch Genki sudo's fights. He lands quite alot of spinning backfists :)

Like someonelse said you have to time it right when they are comng in or moving to the side or in a corner.

:) I have to admit i don't really time much normally just huge my reach advantage to hold them off and when attacking I somehow focus my shots on the body of the other person. :P nothing more beautifull then hearing them say aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah and bend over.
but well this is just because my technique sucks
but favorite 1-2-lefthook to the body

When I'm sparring, sometimes I throw a left jab, right straight and try to land a liver shot. I try to switch it up, and I am not going to pretend that I am bruce lee. My standup needs work.

Jab, hook, right hand with the real power on the last one.

2 - step - 2 - high kick.

Right straight to the body, lead uppercut, lead hook - beautiful combo Fedor stunned Cro Cop with.

I use jab then move in hook to body, hook to head upper cut. Like has been stated it takes set up and patiences. They don't call it the sweat science for nothing.

I fight in the southpaw but i am right handed
I like:
Straight right or jab, followed by a straight left the a leading hook.
One time in a fight i opened up left low kick then left high kick and knocked him out.
