my background is in boxing, so I dont use any kick at all, since this causes me to lose a lot of power when I punch, and I personally thinks it hurts like hell to get checked, hehe.
i like to keep it simple, and to maintain the distance between me and my opponent, since I'm tall and lanky, so I just use:
1-2
1-1-2
1-2-left hook
the 2 (straight right) is sometimes turned into a looping hook/overhand right, but thats about it. the right hook is a short punch, since you are leading with your left hand/foot, and reaching in with a right hook makes you open for counters and makes you lose your balance.
the most important aspect of punching and combinations is to find angles, so what kind of punches you throw doesnt matter, its all about setting up the angles. sidestepping, countering, diagonal sidestepping, paralell sidestepping, thats what you need to think about in my opinion. and as always (in boxing), its about the minimum amount of movement (short sidesteps, short steps forward), move just enough to slip your punch in
