Zane Simon: If this fight took place two or three years ago, maybe back in 2013, I might give Lentz the edge. Oliveira seemed to be going through some growing pains and Lentz seemed to really be on a decent roll. But, I think those days have passed. Most recently, Oliveira has been proving that if you're not a really top caliber talent, you're probably not going to beat him. He put a hell of a whooping on Jeremy Stephens in their fight, and Stephens has looked great lately. On the flip side, Lentz had nothing for Chad Mendes, in a fight Mendes just wanted to coast, and made Manny Gamburyan look surprisingly competitive. Lentz is a great pressure fighter, but he's not a finisher and as fights go on, opponents have a knack for figuring him out and hurting him. Oliveira has become a more and more dominant offensive force and finishes at every opportunity. I have to pick him to get the win here. Charles Oliveira by submission.

Lewis Mckeever: Other than the heavy-hitting kicks department, Carlos Condit should have the edge over Alves in every area. I expect the first 1.5 rounds to be rather competitive, as Condit tends to be a relatively slow starter, but after Condit gets cracked a few times and starts to wake up, I expect NBK to deep-water drown Alves with a barrage of kicks, knees and elbows. Carlos Condit via TKO.

mma

It’s rare to see Joseph Benavidez not near the top of a fight card, but then it’s tough for Flyweights to get recognition by MMA fans. He’s not fighting for a title this weekend, which means he’s also going to be an overwhelming favorite. Since losing to Dominick Cruz at Bantamweight twice, and then losing twice to current Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, Benavidez has had to take what he can get, and that means leading off the pay-per-view portion of the card against John Moraga, despite both fighters being ranked in the top five of the division, and both remaining in the title picture. On paper it’s a competitive pairing, with both men only having losses to the current champion or the current number one contender, and yet the market has taken an extreme position. In the steepest odds of the entire card, the #2 ranked Flyweight Benavidez is currently a -600 favorite over the #5 ranked Moraga at +450. With such a high price for the favorite, it wouldn’t take much to sway value towards the underdog. So let’s see if the numbers can support that.

Mookie Alexander: I hate this fight because it feels like I've seen it before, but then again every Rafael Natal fight feels like it's already happened. If Natal can pressure Hall and work his leg kicks and takedowns, then Uriah is going to lose because he's yet to show any fixed patches in this game. But of course, Natal isn't known for his gas tank, chin, or fighting smartly. I'll hesitantly go with Hall to pull through again. Uriah Hall by TKO, round 2.

Phil Mackenzie: The best card of the year thus far is also looking like one of the most predictable on paper, with clear favourites in almost every fight but the main event. Cerrone has primarily struggled with people who can cut inside his kicking range and exploit his comparatively underwhelming boxing. Makdessi can absolutely do that, as he demonstrated in his last fight, but he's also undersized and underpowered in comparison to Cowboy, and is utterly outclassed if the fight enters the grappling phase. Unless Cerrone has had a sharp physical decline, I think we get something fairly similar to the Cerrone-Alvarez fight, where Makdessi has some initial success but then gets worn down. Donald Cerrone by submission, round 2

3 Things You Should Know

1. Arlovski is a living relic who sometimes defends like one, but is still dangerous.
That Arlovski is still here, in the UFC no less, and on a two fight win streak since coming back to the ufc, no less, is nothing short of miraculous. Casual fans were asking for the mma doctors to put away the defribillator and call it a day on AA after the Kharitonov knockout. Now here he stands, facing off against one of the most dangerous HW fighters on the planet. It's hard to tell where exactly AA is headed. Towards a resurrection narrative? Or a tombstone? Whatever the case, HW is in short supply of athletic, hard hitting heavyweight fighters who aren't injured. So AA should continue to find success, even if might not against Browne.

2. Browne deserves those odds, but suffering a fate the odds don't imply wouldn't be shocking.
Browne is still kind of a mystery to me. His losses have never quite reflected what kind of fighter he is, nor have his wins. He's like a draft pick undergoing a growth spurt; his potential stunted during the common time frame. He's 32, so this analogy kind of breaks down. But he's having some considerate success all the same. Brenden Schaub is on the decline (well, not a decline so much as the competition has gotten better) but it's a good win nonetheless. And he's had better over guys like Barnett and with his only recent blemish against Fabricio Werdum.

3. This fight could be bad for three full rounds, or fun for one.
Matchup wise, it's an interesting contrast not of styles, but of mechanics. AA has always been a dynamic striker. I'll never forget his ability to generate enough power on the ground, off his back, against Marcio Cruz, with his right hand that functionally ended their bout (fence grabbinbg notwithstanidng). I'd imagine he'll have trouble with the taller Browne similar to what happened against Tim Sylvia. Yes, Arlovski had little trouble in landing his right in their first two fights, and capped off their weird saga with an illegal soccer kick to the face after dominating but Sylvia troubled him in spots, and he's hardly a paragon of pugilistic prowess. To be fair, Sylvia was an efficient fighter at one point. Nonetheless, it encapsulates Arlovski's inability to deal with rangy, aware strikers.

Browne is certainly that. He uses his height and reach well with his front kicks especially. Obviously, the best reflection of that efficiency is in the Alistair Overeem fight, in which Browne impaled Overeem with his phalanges.

However, Browne is also open to in the exchanges. Defensively, he struggles, confusing inactivity for awareness. The Kongo fight was god awful, even though it was awhile ago. Nonetheless, Browne needs to be more active at times, and I wonder of his countering style will be efficient against the quicker combinations Arvloski will be looking to land. For as much as people make about Arlovski's chin, he's only been knocked out by brutal punchers.
I get why Browne is the favorite. He's athletic, hits hard, and is bigger. I agree he'll win, but I think Arlovski has a better shot here than people give him credit for because of how his activity could offset Browne's counterstriking; a habit I feel is a little accidental on Browne's part, who never displays the comfort of playing the part.

Prediction
Travis Browne by TKO, round 2.

Mookie Alexander: If it stays standing, Cormier will get knocked out. Jones included, Cormier has fought 0 people with the striking and punching power of Anthony Johnson. That said, I don't think that Johnson can necessarily carry this over into rounds 3 or 4 or 5, where Cormier will be less prone to gassing than Rumble (admittedly with Johnson's improved cardio). This all boils down to how effectively Cormier can wrestle Rumble and if he can wear him out on the ground. He's the best MMA wrestler Johnson has fought since ... Koscheck? And that was at welterweight. Good god. This is a pure toss-up especially given how this fight was only put together on a month's notice. The safe pick is Cormier, which is what I'll go with, but there's every bit the chance Johnson KOs DC. Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision.

Prediction: Tough pick. I believe Johnson will be able to stuff a lot of takedowns early, which means there will be a significant amount of time spent on the feet early on in the fight. Now, if it just becomes mostly a stand up affair, I think Rumble crushes him. The difference between their technical ability with striking may be negligible, but the raw power significantly favors Johnson. If Cormier can make that time standing spent mostly on the clinch though, he has a good chance of grinding it out and wearing down Rumble enough to take advantage standing or with takedowns. Those are two very possible scenarios, but the grind out game plan will be tougher to implement with DC coming in on short notice. Tough decision, but I guess I will have to go with the person more likely to end the fight. Anthony Johnson by TKO.

mma

Nearly a decade ago now, Grove stepped onto the national scene by winning The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3, defeating Ed "Short Fuse" Herman at the Finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite that promising start, "Da Spyder" never put a run together in UFC -- he'd win two and lose one, he'd win one and lose two. After a middling run in Zuffa, the promotion cut ties in 2011 and the Hawaiian has gone 9-5 since. Grove wins more than he loses, but the brass ring stays out of reach. Grove, 32, is still young enough to go on the kind of run he's always been expected to as a TUF champion, but it's also possible that his title shot against Halsey is his last best chance to win a meaningful MMA belt. If there's a hole in Halsey's game, though, we've yet to see it. "The Bull" has won three times by decision, four times by submission and he's even got a technical knockout win over Hector Ramirez for good measure. After defeating Christian M'Pumbu at Bellator 127, Grove vowed that he was "no stepping stone" for the rest of the division. And beating a former champion earned him a championship bout of his own. Nearly 50 percent of his wins (10 out of 21) come via submission, but "Da Spyder" has been caught in that web himself (three out of 14 losses) 21 perent of the time. He's also got a vulnerable chin, losing via (technical) knockout 42 percent of the time. If Halsey doesn't want to risk the ground game he may use his Cal-State Bakersfield wrestling credentials to stuff takedowns and keep it standing. On the other hand, he was willing to play that game with Shlemenko and made a statement. He may make another here. Final prediction: Brandon Halsey defeats Kendall Grove via first round submission

Neil Magny vs. Hyun Gyu Lim

Neil Magny vs. Hyun Gyu Lim FIGHT VIDEO

mma

Magny (14-3) is 7-2 in the UFC with wins over Kiichi Kunimoto, Rodrigo de Lima, Gasan Umalatov, Jon Manley, William Macario, Tim Means and Alex Garcia with losses to Sergio Moraes and Seth Baczynski. The 27-year-old American appeared on TUF 16 and on the show he looked like he was going to get a typical TUF cast out as he was brutally knocked out by Mike Ricci on the show, but he’s really improved since then. He is currently riding a six-fight win streak in the UFC, and while his competition might not be the most impressive, he is getting better every time he fights. He has one of the longest reaches in the welterweight division and he’s finally figuring out how to use it properly. His cardio has improved immensely, and it’s difficult for anyone in the division to match his pace and output. While once criticized as a point fighter, Magny has won three of his last four fights by stoppage. He is a very good fighter and is getting better every time we see him, but he is being given a tough stylistic matchup here in Lim, who matches him in reach and beats him in power. It’s a tough assignment for Magny, but if he wins this fight expect him to get a big step up in competition for his next outing. Lim (13-4-1) is 3-1 in the UFC with three knockout wins over Takenori Sato, Pascal Krauss and Marcelo Guimaraes with a decision loss to Tarec Saffiedine. The 30-year-old South Korean is gigantic for 170lbs and is one of the few fighters in the division who can match Magny’s reach. A brutal knockout artist, Lim has won 12 of his 13 fights by stoppage and overall has won eight of his last nine fights — all by stoppage over that period. He showed in the five-round war he had with Saffiedine that he is extremely tough and durable, although his strike defence — particularly his leg kick defence — during the fight was obviously concerning. Still, he managed to go the full five rounds and event mount a late comeback, nearly winning by knockout in the last 10 seconds. That fight showed how much power he has, and how he’s dangerous at any point in a fight. He is taking on Magny in a fight where the winner will get a significant step up in competition, and it’s a fight that Lim can win if he can land something big, and considering Magny hasn’t shown the best chin the past and considering how much power Lim is packing, there’s a good chance we see an upset in this fight. Magny has looked excellent as of late, but I really think Lim has looked great in the UFC too. Outside of the Saffiedine fight, where he did has his moments, the guy has just been an absolute destroyer. Magny’s looked great too, for the most part, but he has struggled with a few of his opponents, and don’t forget he lost the fight to Baczynski just last year. The thing Baczynski has in common with Lim is they both have a long reach. I feel like Magny has gotten away fighting opponents with shorter reaches, and now that he’s fighting someone with a really long reach like Lim, I think he’ll have some issues. Magny could very well outpoint Lim here, but I don’t think that will be easy. I think Lim will be constantly walking forward throwing power shots, and eventually I think he will catch Magny and put him out. Considering how good he’s looked as of late I can understand why people are betting on Magny here, but I feel like at plus money Lim is worth a shot here. I feel like he can cause Magny a lot of problems on the feet in this fight, and I think he can finish him so at the odds I have to take a stab on the underdog to get the upset win.

Going into his fight against Luke Barnatt, Mark Munoz knew it was going to be his final ride inside the Octagon, as "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" announced that it would be his final time competing in mixed martial arts (MMA). And his final fight just so happened to be in front of his countrymen in Manila, Philippines early Saturday morning (May 16, 2015) live on FOX Sports 1 on the UFC Fight Night 66 main card. An emotional Munoz came out with energy, finding his range early on against the much taller fighter. From there, it was all Munoz, who used his top-notch wrestling game to dictate and control the pace and earn himself numerous takedowns. Round two saw a slower pace, after both men spent plenty of energy in the opening frame. But, Munoz, the former National Champion at Oklahoma State, once again relied on his grappling to get some points from the judges' and wear the Brit down. Barnatt stood tough though, eating several overhand rights from "The Filipino Wrecking Machine," even mocking his foe after taking the hits. Ultimately, Munoz picked up the pace in the final round, as he was determined to end his fighting career on top as opposed to going out on a four-fight losing streak. No one was going to deny Munoz his fairy tale ending, as he used his striking in the final frame to remind fight fans of a fighter who was once considered a title contender in the stacked Middleweight division. Though he never got to the big dance, no one would prevent Munoz from earning his perfect ride into the sunset, as he dominated his foe en route to a unanimous decision victory. To cap off an incredible performance, Munoz put together an absolutely legendary farewell speech, thanking his adoring fans in the Philippines, and setting his gloves down in the center of the Octagon.

Pick: There's no fun way to write this. I think Mark Hunt is going to lose... Possibly very badly. More than anything, I think it's the Roy Nelson win, which was a vicious KO, but also suggested that Hunt isn't really playing the multi-speed footwork and angle game he used to. He looks like he's slowed down. His hands are still great and he still knows how to box, but if opponents aren't giving him the shots, he's not the surprisingly dynamic fighter he was a few years ago. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Miocic either pot shots him to a clear decision, or shockingly KO's him early to the severe disappointment of local fans. Stipe Miocic by KO, Round 2.

In a battle to possibly determine the next Heavyweight contender, Mark Hunt faced Junior Dos Santosin the UFC 160 co-main event. The bout was what most expected - both men threw some heavy leather and belted each other all over the place. It was JDS that got the advantage though, and he finished it with one of the nicest kicks you'll ever see, especially from a heavyweight. Mark Hunt started the fight hitting JDS with leg kicks. Dos Santos looked to stay at range but didn't land anything hard early. Dos Santos landed a huge right hand that dropped Hunt for a second. Hunt recovered and the rest of the round saw the two heavyweights trying to trade bombs Dos Santos had tried to say at range but has only found limited success. They traded on the feet for the majority of the second round, but eventually JDS scored a takedown. He didn't hit a lot of strikes but won the latter part of the round. As expected, the final round of the fight turned into a heavyweight slugfest. In the closing seconds Dos Santos hit a crazy spinning back kick that dropped Hunt.He followed up with one huge punch and Hunt was out.The finish came just 42 seconds before the final horn.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. spent Saturday night doing -- for the most part -- what he's done in the vast majority of his championship bouts over the last decade. He fought strategically. He landed counterpunchers. He held to offset rallies. The significance of this one was that the opponent was Manny Pacquiao. In a welterweight bout that's seemingly been a generation in the making, Mayweather controlled the action in mid ring, eluded prolonged damage along the ropes and worked his way to a unanimous decision that earned him the WBO welterweight title to go along with the WBA and WBC belts he arrived with. The win boosted him to 48-0 as a pro in a 19-year career. Pacquiao is 57-6-2. Judge Dave Moretti gave it to Mayweather by a lopsided 118-110 count -- which translates to 10-2 in rounds -- while judges Glenn Feldman and Burt Clements each had it 116-112, or 8-4 in rounds. A partisan Pacquiao crowd booed the verdict. "He's a helluva fighter and I take my hat off to Manny Pacquiao," Mayweather said. "Now I see why he's one of the guys at the pinnacle of boxing. I fought a smart fight. I stayed outside. We did what we had to do tonight. When the history books are written, it will be worth the wait." Showtime's Jim Gray asked Mayweather if he planned to continue and he said, "I'm fighting in September. Yes. My last fight is in September. I'm almost 40 years old now. I was 19 years old when I started." Mayweather was successful, as he's been in other fights, at keeping Pacquiao's aggression to a manageable pace. The Filipino was caught by a number of stiff right hands, but neither fighter ever appeared in serious trouble. Pacquiao had the most success when he was able to keep Mayweather along the ropes, which didn't happen often.

LAS VEGAS – With what is expected to be be the most lucrative boxing match in history taking place tonight in Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, there was little doubt that White would be around the event. White, the UFC’s president and a longtime boxing fan, was at Friday’s weigh-ins for the fight and offered his insight into what makes the fight special – while picking 2-1 favorite Mayweather to come out the victor. “You know why we’re here?” White asked USA TODAY Sports. “Because the reality is, all the variables of this fight match up so well and are so exciting – that’s why this fight is so big. “Obviously, I want Pacquiao, but I think Mayweather is going to win. I think Floyd is the best in the business. The first four rounds he figures you out and then he does what Floyd does the rest of the fight.” Ultimately, the biggest factor for Mayweather might be the somewhat mythical idea that he “doesn’t know how to lose.” It’s an idea that White seems to support. “That ‘0’ means a lot to him, man,” White said. “He wants to go undefeated.” Check out the video above for White’s thoughts on the fight as well as talk of Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson at UFC 187.
